I feel the need to post about this.
Free Speech - the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. It is part of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is a list of restrictions on what the U.S. Federal Government can do to citizens. It does not apply in other countries. It does not restrict the speech of individuals or give an individual the right to say whatever he or she likes.
Yes, I do know a little about the background of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I am not going to get into how I know what I know but case law has fleshed out what the Bill of Rights means and who it restricts. The Bill of Rights were drafted together, at the same time, because the Founding Fathers wanted to be sure that States' Rights were protected as well as the rights of the citizens from a potentially oppressive federal government.
Nothing fucking sticks in my craw worse than when some pinion uses "OMG FREEDOM OF SPEECH" to justify being a prick on the internet. Unless the person you are criticizing is the United States Federal government (or a state government by way of incorporation under the 14th Amendment) you don't get to tell them "FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!111!11!!" when they tell you to, "Fuck off."
Go back and take a fucking civics or American government class for the love of fucking God or just fucking beat yourself in the head, repeatedly, with a history book. You are what is wrong with America.
Stop abusing the First Amendment. What did it ever do to you?
